AP and Dual Credit Courses

Welcome to AP and Dual Credit COurses!

Several classes offered at Carlinville HIgh School can earn college credit as well as credits for High School graduation. These classes are accepted by the majority of colleges in Illinois, and are free of charge.  These classes are a great way to fully prepare yourself for college and at the same time save money.  Classes that are offered for dual credit are marked by an asterisk (*) and are subject to change depending upon LCCC requirements.

Registration

Registration

Students must be registered for each dual credit class.  A representative from LCCC will contact the classroom teacher and set up a time in which the entire class can register for the course.  If a student is absent on a day that this is done, it is the responsibility of the student to complete this process at the local LCCC office on his or her own time.

Payment

Payment

Per LCCC guidelines, a $10.00 fee per credit hour will be charged to the student. If a student drops the course after the LCCC deadline, the fee will still be the student’s responsibility to pay. Payment can be made payable to Carlinville School District.

Assessment Testing

All LCCC classes in the dual credit program require qualifying ACT/SAT scores or placement testing, if needed.  These tests are ‘on line’ and must be taken under the supervision of the LCCC staff.  Students or parents can contact Lewis and Clark Community College with any questions.

Establishing a College Transcript

By participating in the dual credit program at LCCC, the student is establishing a college transcript.  This can be a positive experience for the student who receives college credit before graduating from high school.  There are only a couple of negative aspects involved in this process that need to be understood by the student.

By taking a dual credit class, the student is establishing a grade point average at the college level.  Whatever grade the student receives in the high school classroom will be reflected on the community college transcript as well.  Students do not want to establish a grade of ‘D’ or ‘F’ at the college level.  Caution and hard work need to be used to prevent this possibility.

Secondly, some students who are enrolled in a dual credit class may decide not to participate after the class has started and drop from credit with LCCC.  Again great caution should be taken with this decision in that it may affect the student’s financial aid package the following school year, no matter which college or technical/business school the student selects.

Macoupin County Consortium Articulation Agreement

Carlinville High School has entered into an agreement with other county high schools that will allow students to take coursework offered by other schools that is not currently available at Carlinville High School. This will be based on availability and schedule alignment. Final details are currently being worked out on this pilot program. Offered courses will be announced through the Guidance Office.

Distance Learning Courses

Carlinville High School is now able to offer Distance Learning Courses that are taken here at Carlinville High School from one of over 70 Illinois Schools that are part of the Rise Network. These courses might be courses you want to take but we don't offer at CHS, or college level courses with dual credit that we don't offer. If you want to take a course that we don't offer, please see the guidance counselor to see what the options are.
