Welcome to Social-Emotional Learning at Carlinville CUSD#1
At Carlinville CUSD#1, we believe in nurturing the whole child, and that includes fostering social and emotional development alongside academic growth. Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program is designed to equip students with the skills and competencies they need to thrive personally, socially, and academically.
Components of SEL at Carlinville CUSD#1
- Curriculum Integration: SEL is integrated into our curriculum and instructional practices across all grade levels and subject areas. Through explicit instruction, classroom activities, and collaborative learning experiences, students learn and practice SEL skills in authentic contexts.
- Explicit Instruction: We provide dedicated time for explicit SEL instruction through lessons, discussions, and activities focused on topics such as self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, communication, and problem-solving. These lessons are designed to be developmentally appropriate and responsive to the needs of our students.
- Positive School Climate: We prioritize creating a positive school climate where students feel safe, respected, and included. Through proactive strategies such as restorative practices, peer mediation, and conflict resolution, we cultivate a culture of empathy, understanding, and cooperation.
- Professional Development: We provide ongoing professional development opportunities for educators to deepen their understanding of SEL principles and practices, enhance their instructional strategies, and create supportive learning environments. Educators learn how to model SEL skills, integrate SEL into their teaching practices, and effectively support students' social and emotional development.
- Family and Community Partnerships: We recognize the importance of family and community partnerships in supporting students' social and emotional growth. We engage families and caregivers in SEL initiatives through workshops, resources, and opportunities for collaboration, recognizing that strong connections between home and school contribute to students' overall well-being.
