Siri Engstrom
Siri has been bringing her enthusiasm for teaching Spanish to classrooms since 1997, from Illinois to Alaska, and back again. She taught for 27 years at the university level, and is thrilled to now be working with a younger student population. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the University of Puget Sound, and a Master’s degree in Spanish from the University of Illinois. Through the years she has taught students from 8 to 80 years old.
Siri’s classroom is focused on Hispanic culture and communication in Spanish; from conversations and discussions to presentations, music, projects, and many, many games. She is continuously amazed by how quickly students attain functional fluency by reading, writing, listening and speaking to Spanish in the classroom.
Siri’s excitement about teaching is matched by her love of speaking Spanish—she is also an interpreter and has worked in myriad settings, including courtrooms, correctional facilities, hospital delivery rooms and a gold mine!
Siri’s other passion is youth exchange and study abroad, which she will promote whenever asked. Siri was a youth exchange student in Spain, and studied there again as a college student. As an adult she has lived in Argentina, and has traveled extensively to many different countries.
Siri is a proud member of the Carlinville Rotary Club and leads the CHS Interact Club. In her spare time she loves traveling, cooking, all types of puzzles, reading, walking and spending time with her husband and three boys.
