Brian Austwick
Industrial Tech Teacher
Mr. Austwick is a Carlinville native and a 1985 graduate of Carlinville High School. His wife Kerri and his children are all Cavaliers. He is a graduate of Ranken Technical College with a degree in Precision Machining Technology. Upon graduating from Ranken he took a role as a machinist apprentice with Design Systems Inc. in Morton IL. He completed his 8000hr. U.S. Department of Labor, Precision Machinist Apprenticeship and received his Journeyman’s credentials while employed with Design Systems. Design Systems specialized in designing, fabricating and assembling prototype machines, test equipment, tooling and fixtures for manufacturers.
Mr. Austwick accepted his first teaching position in 2003 as a Machine Tool Technology Instructor at Eastern Iowa Community College’s, Blong Technology Center in Davenport Iowa. In 2004 he was recruited by Ranken Technical College’s, Precision Machining Technology department where he taught for 11 years. As an instructor Mr. Austwick has provided instruction in Manual Machining, CNC machining, CAD/CAM, Machine Shop Math and Welding courses. He has developed and administered industrial training for John Deere, Toyota, Anheuser Busch, Sunnen, Haas and others.
In 2015 he accepted an offer from Boeing Defense Systems as the Special Tooling, Portfolio Manager for the F-15 program. While at Boeing he had the pleasure of working with approximately 50 of his former students. The positive interactions with his former students inspired Mr. Austwick to return to teaching.
In 2020 Mr. Austwick was allowed the privilege of joining Carlinville High School. Mr. Austwick looks forward to introducing students to careers in the field of high tech manufacturing.
