IAR Testing Info

Dear Carlinville Middle School Families:

We would like to inform you that your child will be participating in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) from March 31 through April 7. During this time, students will follow an adjusted schedule, which will be provided to students in their Advisory classes. The schedule has been designed to allow students to complete the mathematics portions with their mathematics teachers and the English language arts (ELA) portions with their English teachers. Each day of testing students will begin their days in their regularly advisory classes. However, as a result of the modified scheduling regular coursework will not take place as usual as not all classes will meet according to their typical schedules.

The IAR is a state-mandated assessment that measures students' academic progress in ELA and mathematics. This assessment helps us understand how well students are learning and identify areas where we can provide additional support. It is one of several tools we use, alongside classroom grades, teacher feedback, and other assessments, to gain a comprehensive view of your child's academic growth.

How You Can Support Your Child:

  • Ensure Regular Attendance: Please make sure your child arrives at school on time each day.
  • Encourage a Positive Mindset: Talk to your child about the test in a positive way. Encourage them to do their best while reassuring them that the IAR is just one measure of their learning progress.
  • Prioritize Rest: A good night's sleep before each test day is crucial for focus and concentration.
  • Provide Nutritious Meals: A healthy breakfast and lunch will help your child stay energized and attentive during testing.
  • Review Test-Taking Strategies: Help your child practice basic strategies such as:
    ○ Carefully reading each question.
    ○ Eliminating incorrect answer choices.
    ○ Managing their time effectively during the test.
  • Communicate with Us: If your child has concerns or anxiety about the test, please reach out to Mrs. Leefers. We are here to support them.

What We Are Doing at School:

  • Targeted Review: Students are receiving targeted instruction in both ELA and mathematics to reinforce key concepts and skills.
  • Practice with IAR-Style Questions: We are familiarizing students with the test format by using released IAR questions.
  • Test-Taking Strategies: Teachers are reviewing and practicing test-taking techniques to help students feel confident and prepared.
  • Assessment Accommodations: Students who require assessment accommodations will receive the necessary support as outlined in their educational plans

We appreciate your partnership in supporting your child's academic success. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the IAR assessment, please do not hesitate to contact us.Thank you for your continued support.
